During the summer of July 2024, Making Robotics had the privilege of joining the Centro Hispano of East Tennessee as a partner in their summer camp, bringing hands-on STEM education to bright young minds. Over the course of four immersive sessions, we introduced fourth and fifth-grade students to the exciting world of robotics and programming through a special project: the creation of an intelligent greenhouse. Named "El Invernadero de Lina," this project was designed to teach essential concepts in environmental monitoring and automation while fostering creativity and teamwork among students.
Using Micro:bit, a versatile microcontroller designed for educational purposes, students learned to code and experiment with real-world applications. They measured humidity, temperature, and light levels, gaining a deeper understanding of how technology interacts with the natural world. They programmed servos to automate greenhouse functions, applied problem-solving skills to overcome challenges, and discovered the importance of collaboration in engineering solutions. It was remarkable to witness their excitement as they saw their work come to life—watching sensors react, motors move, and data shape real-world applications was nothing short of inspiring. Every session was a step forward in their journey into STEM, empowering them with knowledge and confidence.
As we reflect on this incredible summer, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to make an impact. The enthusiasm and curiosity of these young learners reaffirm our mission to bring accessible and engaging robotics education to our community. This partnership has been more than just a series of lessons—it has been a celebration of learning, creativity, and the boundless potential of young minds. We look forward to continuing this journey, fostering more opportunities for students to explore, innovate, and dream big. Thank you to everyone who made this experience possible!
